Laser Labeling Inspection

Raise efficiency of your production

In the automotive industry, parts are often manufactured with labeling lasers, which remove layers of lacquer on the three dimensionally formed surfaces. The cleared symbols are finally illuminated with optical fibres or directly with a light source. One application is the control panel in cars.

Due to the high quality demands of the consumer, the finished products must be thoroughly inspected for design faults and the correct luminous density. Often a luminous density of Lmin/Lmax > 0.8 is required.

Scope of work

Intego’s inspection system TOPAS can inspect the following defect categories automatically:

  • Variations in the exact positioning of pieces in the laser labeling unit: With positioning measurements and re-adjustment of the laser, deviated positions of the labels are avoided and, consequently, the resulting yield is increased.
  • Labeling defects resulting from the laser process: Typical production faults, such as non-uniform line thickness or incomplete symbols are detected.
  • Surface faults in the coating: Detection of lacquer faults, such as dirt inclusions, bubbles, or scratches is performed.
  • Symbol luminance: A quantitative determination is made of the luminance Lmin/Lmax. If the original illumination is not available, a standard controllable illumination (similar to D65) is fixed behind the parts.

Defective parts are relialby sorted and separated. The inspection is performed within the typical cycle time of the laser marking process so that a delay in production will not occur.

Further options

The system can be delivered as a stand-alone machine or can be integrated into an existing station, e.g. a lasering station. Intego also offers automation solutions for assembly or sorting.

If you require an individual solution, Intego offers free-of-charge feasibility studies based on sample parts. The prepared study will include a system design with draft specifications and a price estimate. Do not hesitate to contact us directly.
